Immanuel Healthcare conducts renal transplants for individuals with End-Stage Renal Disease, offering both living and deceased donor options for adults and children. The multidisciplinary team works collaboratively, ensuring high-quality patient outcomes.
Renal failure occurs when the kidneys can no longer filter waste from the body. This condition may result from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, malignant hypertension, infections, glomerular diseases, polycystic kidney disease, or autoimmune disorders like lupus. Dialysis is typically required until a transplant becomes feasible.
While transplantation is a viable solution, it may not be recommended for individuals with active tuberculosis, recent cancer history, advanced cardiac, pulmonary or liver conditions, or those with ongoing alcohol, drug, or tobacco dependency.
The transplant procedure takes approximately three hours. The donor kidney is placed in the lower abdomen, with its blood vessels connected to the recipient’s vascular system and the ureter linked to the bladder. Once blood flow is established, the new kidney begins its filtering function.
